National Technologies Limited
The National Technologies Limited is a 100% owned Company by National Institute for Scientific and Industrial Research. The Company was registered on 1st June, 2004. The purpose for setting up NTL was to mobilise resources through commercialization of viable research and development products and services.
Technologies Available
The following technologies developed by NISIR scientists are available and being used or intended to be used by NTL for making the following products:
Ceramic Products Over the years NISIR has developed technology in pottery using local clays. Insulators and decorative products are now being made and sold under NTL.
There is also the technology developed for making dustless and coloured chalks using the local clay. NTL also has the technology for making energy efficient clay braziers, red bricks, braai (Chicken Tanduri) and floor tiles. Along with these products, the Company has the technology for making coal briquettes. Glassware Products
Using glassblowing technology, NTL is able to make laboratory glassware products both for schools and industry. A wide range of glassware such as Test tubes, beakers etc can be made for laboratories of learning institutions, hospitals and others.
Food Products
Over the years, food scientists have been working on different baby food formulations using locally grown raw materials to combat malnutrition levels in Zambia. Several baby weaning food and nutritious formulations are available for uptake.
A technology for making sauces, juices and carbonated drinks from indigenous fruits and vegetables was developed by the food scientists. In addition, the Masuku Wine technology is available.
Medical Products
The technology for irradiating pig skin for use in treating burns has been developed and products tested in clinics and hospital with successful results. NTL is looking at the novel technology to supply the products to the health institutions in Zambia and the region.
