The mandate of the programme is to provide, manage and disseminate scientific and technical information for effective implementation of Research and development programmes.

The programme is implementing three projects within its mandate:

National ICT Based Training Telecentre

The aim of the project is to strengthen national vocational training capacity in ICT based training by developing infrastructure and human resources to be used in the development of ICT-based teaching/learning materials and in delivery of courses.

The NISIR is collaborating with the Ministry of Science, Technology and Vocational Training and the International Atomic Energy Agency on this project.

Library Automation and Collection Development

The project is aimed at developing capacity in utilisation of electronic information, streamlining of information management and the procurement of information resources.

Further, the project disseminates scientific and technical information to stakeholders in various forms.

Research Communication and Information Network

The overall objective is to build NISIR’s ICT capacity and capability to enable the institution take advantage of modern technologies for dissemination of research information and networking with similar institutions.

Its activities focus on internal network development and equipment maintenance and technology upgrading. It also carries out training of staff on network services and resources.
