ABSTRACT

Clays from four local deposits, namely, Mkushi River china clay, Masuku pegmatite, Loshi and Solwezi ball clays were subjected to differential thermal analysis (DTA) to identify the nature and type of various minerals present in them. The clays are predominantly of the kaolinite-type with some quartz, mica, iron and titanium oxides present as impurities. The DTA results were used in conjunction with the chemical analysis to estimate the mineralogical composition of the clays.
