The Picric-Acid-Schiff's (PAS) reaction in the
urinary bladder epithelium in hyrax, by J. Epelu-Opio, Zambia Journal
of Science & Technology, Vol.2, no.3, July 1977, Pg. 5-10.
Sections of the wall of the urinary bladder of the rock hyrax [Order: Hyracoidea]
were stained by PAS reaction technique either prior to or after treatment in
diastase solution. The component cell layers of this transitional epithelium
showed differences in the degree of their sensitivity to the PAS reaction. The
PAS-positive material in the epithelial cells was digested by diastase. The
fixative used in the initial preparatory stages produced some variations with
regard to the reaction of the epithelial cells of the PAS reaction.
